As we all know. Haslar and Stonehouse are no longer Naval hospitals. They were centres that offered the highest levels of care and cleanliness to it's service and civilian patients a like....

Although, predominently a Stonehouse rating I, nevertheless, held both of these hospitals in high regard. The levels of training and care provided by both of these hospitals put many of the NHS Trusts in the shade. I have fond memories of both.

Sad times indeed for a proud Medical Branch. They will be both, sadly missed.

Progress? I think not.

Mick,
Glad to see that someone took this on. I hope you find it a satisfying exercise. I only found you out by searching for RH Hospital Plymouth and also discovered the reunion site.
Would like to see more from my era, I'm not too sure we knew each other. Early on I decided that hospital work was not for me and skiddadled to the bootnecks for most of my service. Never mind tho'. Good luck with the site. I'll see if I can fish something out to put on board. It may jog some memories.

A very sad day,nearly 250 years of History gone in a penstroke!I do believe that the Govt will come to regret this action in the next few Years.

It is sad for those of us who knew these two grand old dames it's true, but their closure is beyond my control.
As a result, I try to look for the positive in it and it is this: to have served in either hospital makes one a member of a special, and now "limited issue" group and piece of naval history.

But are "they" seeing the value of RNH Haslar at long last - it seems that Haslar is likely to be staying open as an NHS facility until they get QA built. So the doors won't be closing completely.
