You are, of course, welcome to your opinion. Certainly, your view, does not reflect my experience in Naval hospitals.

Come on guys all RN hospitals were centres for bad practice, poor hygine and generally inhumane, control seeking english discraces. For naval heritage and memories of good times and good friends they were excelent. For patient care and high standards.... computer says no!!!!!
I have 100 or more stories of mal practice at Haslar and RNH but they were my home and we could do anything in or out of the office pub. NHS best to deal with our boys as military has NO place in healthcare!!!

Spot on John. Not sure how we effectively train new medics now. The demise of military hospitals is, in my humble opinion, hugely detrimental to the care of our forces personnel.

Like you, Mick, I was born a Guzz rating, but went on to become proud of Haslar as well as Stonehouse. When I was serving in Haslar, the hospital was in the ascent, adding to its facilites and expertise. The surgeons and physicians were highly respected throughout the medical world. It isn't just the buildings that have been closed, we have lost generations of specialised skill.
Positive regression.

Hey Mick,

Didn't I take your draft to Commando Forces from RNH Plymouth some time prior to Oct 1977 and didn't you then get drafted to RNH Gibraltar? Seems like I had a lucky escape...NOT!

I've just read some of the Navy Lark! I was on the beach at San Carlos taking casualties off HMS Antelope. I met Andy Till that night, obviously knowing him previously. I was a member of 45 Commando, a command trained LMA. A small world. I was later the CPOMA in Drake and worked alongside Bob Young. WE took all the patients from RNH Plymouth when it closed.

I reached the dixxy heights of WO1 Medical Assistant before being commissioned into the Education Branch. I still serve and I am about to help form a Joint Stress Management Training School, my speciality!

Good to hear about you, hope you're doing well. I married Janet Lucas, still together, 32 years this year.

Regards,
